Three new cases of Ebola recorded in Guinea

                       
According to a senior health official in Guinea who spoke yesterday Wednesday, October 28, three more people have been infected with the Ebola virus. According to Fode Tass Sylla, spokesman for the national center for the fight against Ebola, the three were infected in Forecariah in western Guinea from the family of a woman who died of Ebola and whose body was handled without appropriate protection.

"In all, nine sick people are being treated at our centers throughout the country and most are connected to the dead woman," he told Reuters, adding that authorities had known of the three fresh cases since Saturday.

Six killed, others missing in Bayelsa pipeline explosion

The number of casualties is believed to be higher as several other persons among them soldiers on security duty were still missing as at press time.

Buhari rejects N400m armoured cars

President Muhammadu Buhari has turned down an offer by the Federal Government to procure five new armoured Mercedes Benz S-600 (V222) cars for his use.

The cars which total cost is put at about N400m were planned to be purchased by the State House.

A Presidency source told journalists on Thursday that Buhari got to know of the plan when the Permanent Secretary, State House, Mr. Nebolisa Emodi, was briefing him of his ministry’s activities on Wednesday.

44 killed, 67 injured in twin bomb blast in Jos

                        
44 people have been confirmed dead following a twin bomb blast that rocked the city of Jos, Plateau state yesterday night. The first explosion happened inside the Shagalinku restaurant located along Bauchi Road while the second one went off at Yantaya Mosque in Nassarawa Gwon area of the state. Muslim faithfuls were actually listening to an Islamic message when the bomb went off.

According to the Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Abdussalam Mohammed, 67 people were injured in both attack.

An upcoming singer, Olowu Taiwo aka LT. has said that rapper, Olamide stole the popular ‘Shakiti Bobo’ dance moves from him.

LT made this assertion during an interview with HIP TV,  In his words, “After I did my video, a friend of mine told me the dance I did in the video (Yobo dance) was trending on Instagram by Olamide. And my friend told me he had already told someone who is in Olamide’s crew about the dance. I released the audio version of my own song on 22nd April, 2015, and Olamide released his own song on 2nd May. During that time, I was working on my viral video which I released on 6th May. It wasn’t up to 24 hours after that, I saw ‘Shakiti Bobo.’ I was like, what’s going on; why is this happening at this particular time. I’m not here to point fingers that someone stole my dance moves, but I feel it’s not cool for you to do something that you knew about from someone else, and pick it up as your own.”
Meanwhile, when a call was put through to Olamide’s manager, Alex, to react to the story, he hung up the phone, and other attempts to reach him proved abortive.

But when minutes rolled into hours, and the staff refused to emerge from the room, colleagues began to suspect something was wrong.

Officials of the Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State have commenced a demolition exercise at the Ladipo Auto Spare Parts Market at Mushin.

Court acquits Femi Fani-Kayode of money laundering charges

                              
A federal High court sitting in Lagos today discharged and acquitted former Aviation Minister Femi Fani Kayode of money laundering charges leveled against him by the EFCC.

Delivering her judgement, the presiding judge, Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia,​ said the charges brought against Fani-Kayode was 'feeble' and EFCC failed to provide 'copious evidence' that linked him to money laundering.

Fani-Kayode's trial began in 2008 when he was accused of laundering about N100 million while he was minister of culture and tourism and later Aviation minister. The money was later reduced to N2.1million in Nov. 2014 after the court dismissed 38 of the 40-count charge leveled against him. Police arrest five ritualists in Ondo

FIVE suspected ritualists have been arrested at a shrine where abducted persons are slaughtered and their parts sold to prospective buyers at Ago Oyinbo in Okitipupa area of Ondo State.
Consequently, upon discovery of the kidnappers den, youths in the town stormed the place and demolished it.
the suspects were arrested, following a tip-off by people of the community, who noticed strange movements and stench oozing out of the building.
Men of Igbotako Police division reportedly effected the arrest of the suspects.

Group seeks suspension of Obanikoro, Olorunoje from PDP

A group within the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Concerned PDP Elders and Stakeholders, on Sunday, asked the national leadership of the party to suspend the immediate past Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, and the newly-appointed acting Chairman of the party in the state, Mr. Kamaldeen Olorunoje.

The group, in a statement signed by its coordinator, Lanre Hassan, alleged that both Obanikoro and Olorunoje were engaging in anti-party activities capable of distracting the party at the Lagos State Election Petitions Tribunal.

The group claimed that Olorunoje forced the suspended chairman of the party, Capt. Tunji Shelle (retd.) out of the PDP secretariat, using thugs and policemen.

Nigeria military's control centre has now reportedly moved to Maiduguri

                              
According to BBC, the Nigerian Army's spokesperson Colonel Sani Usman says the Nigerian military's command center has now been relocated to Borno state as directed by President Buhari in his inaugural speech.

"The team has already commenced work in earnest," Col Usman said in a statement released today.

The statement also added that all senior military officers will relocate to the north east., the bedrock of Boko Haram crisis.

50 Heads Of States To Attend Buhari’s Inaguration

 50 Heads of State and other delegates are expected to attend the May 29 handing over ceremony, The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Edem Duke, said on Friday.

“The security agencies are working in close contact to ensure that there will be absolutely no threat to security,” he confirmed.
This is the first time in 16 years that the Democracy Day celebrations will witness the inauguration of a new president from an opposition party.

Makoko is a paradox of living as the community thrives on water. It is a community that enjoys frontage to the Lagos Lagoon and rich history in aquatic trading and harmonious relationship with all the neighboring communities.

Established in the 18th century primarily as a fishing village, much of Makoko rests in structures constructed on stilts above Lagos Lagoon.

The population now consists mainly of migrant workers from West African countries, trying to make a living in Nigeria.

Government threatened to close down Ladipo Market


Mushin Local Government threatened to close down Ladipo Market if the crisis rocking the auto spare parts market persists,

The warning was sounded by the executive secretary of the local government, Mr. Babajide Bello at the weekend during interaction with journalists. Bello said he cannot fold his hands and watch total break down of law and order in Mushin by the warring factions.

He said confirmed that he was aware of the crises in the market and said he was ready to arrest the situation so that it will not escalate.

Speaking of his efforts to arrest the situation , Bello said he had invited the two parties involved in the matter, the executives of the traders and Monday Lawrence, the leader of cemetery workers, for discussion.

Robbers Invade Pres. Jonathan’s Aide’ Home, Cart Away Undisclosed Amount Of Money

Unidentified gunmen on Saturday stormed the home of the Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Domestic Matters, Mr. Waripamowei Dudafa, and carted away an undisclosed amount of money after destroying the safe kept in one of his rooms.

It was learnt that the gunmen, 10 in number, were dressed in police uniform. They were said to have stormed his residence in Okaka Estate, Yenagoa, around 8pm.
It was learnt that when the robbers came, the three policemen guarding the residence of the Presidential aide were not around.

Baby, four others die in Lagos fire disasters

A six-month-old baby boy and four other people lost their lives in two separate fire disasters in Lagos State on Saturday.

While the baby was burnt to death in the Ipaja area of the state around 8.30pm after his mother lit a candle, the other four victims lost their lives after a commercial bus had a lone accident in the Iponri area of the state

In the Ipaja incident, the six-month-old baby boy was said to be asleep on the bed when the candle lit by his mother and placed on top of the wardrobe, fell on the mattress, causing a fire around 9.35pm.

The incident happened in Shagari Estate, Mosan Okunola, in the Ipaja area of Lagos State.

Nigeria is not broke – Okonjo-Iweala

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has said the country is not broke despite the cash crunch currently being experienced.

She said that with the financial assets the President Goodluck Jonathan administration had been able to build over the years, the nation’s cash flow would improve over time.

In an interview with CNN’s Richard Quest, Okonjo-Iweala said, “Under this administration, we began the work of truly diversifying the economy and the proof of that is that much of the growth in this past few years that has come to the country has come not from the oil sector but actually from non-oil sectors like agriculture, telecommunications, manufacturing and the creative industries.
